In Presence Based discernment, the facilitator primarily serves the process. Yet, this person may have input and perspective that is crucial to the discernment and its implementation. As such, it is most helpful to have everyone involved alert to process as well as participation.
The facilitator embraces and invites participants to contribute to the common good. That person is alert to the full scope of the culture that the setting has affirmed or requires.
Additionally, these initiatives round out the role:
- Prepare oneself and the setting for the meeting in advance
- Surrender positional authority to Christ
- Abide in the Lord’s presence with both dependency and expectancy
- Pursue clarity
- Engage all
- Reward those who build upon the contribution of others
- Invite the displaced to come close and contribute
- Serve as unto the Lord to deliver an affirmed and confirmed decision
