Kingdom Attitudes – The Beatitudes of Matthew 5:3-12

keith-yoder-ttm-035

The attitudes of our hearts govern our way of life—our thoughts and actions. We read the Bible to discover God’s heart and purpose—until our hearts have no will of their own and fully God’s.

Blessed, happy: this is the sort of person who is to be congratulated, this is the sort of person who is to be envied, for he alone is genuinely happy.

Being Utterly Dependent: Blessed are the poor in Spirit – Matthew 5:3

Happy is the man who depends utterly on God for everything.

  1. His everyday needs of food, clothes, and shelter.
  2. His everyday needs of guidance and protection from the Evil One.
  3. His daily need of the anointing of the Holy Spirit, to heal the sick and deliver captives and bind up the broken hearted.

Dependent abiding comes because he knows without Jesus… l can do nothing. John 15:5

Being Repentant: Blessed are those who mourn… over sin and failure. – Matt 5:4

Daily Turning from our sinful desires and longings.

Daily Turning from the world its deceits and evil values and Godless behavior.

Daily Resisting the Devil, his lies, deceptions, and temptations.

Daily choosing to turn from all other ways, so we are free to live God’s way,

Mourning over our own poverty of spirit

Mourning over the sins of others (as intercession)

Being Surrendered: Blessed are the meek – Matt 5:5

The meek daily surrenders their rights and wills, to blend with the Father’s will.

The meek daily surrender to the whisper of the Holy Spirit, to be directed by Him.

The meek daily yield to God’s commands in His Word, “Do to others what. “

The Meek surrender and say “Nevertheless, not my will but yours be done.”

The meek exercise their strength under the discipline as to how it fulfills God’s purposes

Being Hungry and Thirsty: Blessed are those who Hunger & Thirst for Righteousness. – Matt 5:6

We daily hunger for intimacy with God, who is Righteous. We daily hunger for His ways, for He is our righteousness.

So, we daily seek righteousness, honesty, integrity, and justice for others.

We seek to feed the hungry, cloth the naked, house the homeless, to establish justice and mercy in the land. Hosea 10 v 12 “Sow for yourselves righteousness … “

Our greatest desire is to be right with God and to make things right for others.

Being Mercy Givers: Blessed are the merciful… – Matt 5:7

“Do to others what you would have them to do to you… ” Be Merciful.

Daily we care for and serve others. Every day we forgive and bless others.

Daily we turn the cheek and go the second mile.

Daily we refuse, “an eye for an eye” and reject revenge.

Daily we give more than justice; we gladly give mercy, where it is not deserved.

We treat others as God treats us—acting with compassion.

Being Pure in Heart: Blessed are the Pure in Heart for they will see God. – Matt 5:8

Being pure means our eyes can see clearly… we have a divine perception in everything. So, purify your hearts… James 4:8-9

Be Good company for a holy, pure God.

Lives set apart for God in harmony with His holiness

Being Peacemakers: Blessed are the Peacemakers – Matt 5:9

Daily we seek to live as those who bring reconciliation and peace wherever we go.

Bringing a reconciling spirit in our families, community, and nation.

So, there is no gossip, no retaliation, and no revenge; there is only mercy and peace. We stand in the gap to bring harmony and reconciliation.

We may get shot at by both sides, but our aim is to win both, to bring reconciliation. A posture of active assistance to help others toward mutual respect and interdependence

Being Happy to Suffer for what is right: Blessed are the persecuted… – Matt 5:10

Daily being willing to be criticized for doing what is right.

Daily willing to be attacked for speaking up for what is right.

Daily willing to be persecuted and suffer injustice for what is right and just.

Daily willing to suffer for the sake of others.

Recognizing the greater purpose and value of faithfulness to God in a hostile environment.

Being Happy to Follow Jesus…. Even when it brings insults and trouble. – Matt 5:11

Blessed are you when people insult you, and persecute you and tell lies about you because of Me….

Daily an offence to others for declaring Jesus to be the Savior and King.

Daily an offence to unbelief in others.

Daily an offence to selfishness and evil in others.

Daily an offence to the political and religious powers of the land, where they act in unrighteous and support injustice in our society.

Identifying with Jesus readily when His presence divides the kingdoms of this world from the Kingdom of God.

Being Joyful and Glad  because great is our reward in Heaven – Matt 5:12

Being Joyful because Jesus will win.

His Kingdom will come. Pray for it daily, in Me.

Rejoicing because we cannot lose our reward. It’s reserved in heaven for us. WOW!

Rejoicing to suffer in the great tradition of the prophets before us.

Viewing daily events from a heavenly and eternal perspective

Then we will be…

The SALT of the Earth….to purify and cleanse society… of evil & sin & unrighteousness.

The LIGHT of the World… to shine for Jesus, so men can see our good works and bring PRAISE to our Father in Heaven. Matt 5:13-16

Let us Live like this ….for JESUS, He is worth it.

Let us live like this … through UNION WITH CHRIST within us … He is our LIFE

Then … ours will be the Kingdom, we will reign with Him.

We will be comforted with the forgiveness of our sins,

We will receive resources as needed,

We will be filled with righteousness, we will receive mercy, and we will see God,

What Wonder!

We will be called the Sons of God, and ours will be the Kingdom of Heaven.

All these are the promises of Jesus.

“The Sermon on the Mount is a statement of what will happen in me when Jesus Christ has altered my disposition and put in a disposition like His own.”
